Bharathanatyam

Bharathanatyam is the classical dance of Tanjavoor (Tamil Nadu). it was known as the "Dassiyattam". The name 'Bharathanatyam'was derived from 3 basic concepts of Bhava, Raga, Tala.

The dance performed on the stage as Nritta, Nritya,and Natya. Bharathanatyam is based on the natyashastra and Abhinaya Darpana. The dance forms based on the Adavu's (steps) Hasta, Mudra(hand gestures). The performance starts with the prayer to god ganapathi and worship of nataraja moorthi. The sequence of the dance performance is alarippu, Jathiswaram, Sabdam, Varnam, Padam and Thillana. It was regularised by Chinnaya, Ponnaya, Sivanadam, Vadivelu. The costume is paijama and jacket of kanjipuram silk. The ornaments are the soorya and chandra head sets, Jimmiki, Mookuthi, Necklace, Long chain, Belt small bells on foot, Jasmine flowers on the hair. Bharathanatyam based on carnatic classical music. The instruments used are Nattuvangam, Mmridangam, Flute, Violin etc

Make members of Brahmin community in Kuchipudi. Village of Andrapredesh used to perform this dance form more or less resebles. Bhagavad mela of melathur and is about 300 years old. Bhama Kalppam Prahlad Charitham. puring the last 40 years women also taking part in Kuchipudi.
